Nutrition Program Director

This position is responsible for the management of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and any funded comprehensive nutrition program activities. This position performs using independent judgement and is under the supervision of the Maternal Child Health Division Director. Responsibilities include but are not limited to leading, planning, developing, coordinating, and directing activities of the WIC Program for the Department of Health in Orange County. This position also serves as the Information Key Custodian for WIC Program records. The incumbent will interact with program managers, supervisors, and other nutrition program staff, or with staff in various outreach programs such as Healthy Start, Family Planning Prenatal Health, Community Health and Promotions, and School Health Programs. This position spends more than 50% of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.
