The following is a statement from Georgia Machell, president and CEO of the National WIC Association (NWA), on the Secretary of Agriculture Nominee Brooke Rollins’ Pledge to Fully Fund WIC:
“Today, Secretary of Agriculture nominee Brooke Rollins affirmed her commitment to continuing the decades-long bipartisan tradition of fully funding WIC to serve all eligible families who walk through our doors. As a cornerstone of health and nutrition for millions of Americans, WIC plays a vital role in strengthening families and communities nationwide. We are encouraged by this recognition of WIC’s critical importance to this nation.
"We also appreciate Mrs. Rollins' openness to further learning about the federal nutrition programs that would fall under her purview if confirmed. Her willingness to engage with these programs reflects an understanding of their complexity and their essential role in addressing nutrient deficiencies, improving maternal and child health, increasing access to nutritious foods, and supporting farmers and local businesses.
“The National WIC Association stands ready to brief Mrs. Rollins on WIC, and provide insight into how different federal nutrition programs—including SNAP—work together to support the health and wellbeing of American families. We look forward to collaborating and ensuring these federal programs continue to meet the needs of families nationwide.”
